TAJWEED IN DEPTH

STEP 8 | Stopping Yourself from Moving Past a Surah Until you have Connected its First verse to its Last

IT MUST FLOOOOOOOWW!!

After completing the memorization of a surah from the surahs of the noble Qur'aan, a haafidh must not move to the next surah until he/she has perfected the memorization of the current surah completely, connecting its first verse to its last, with perfection. This means not being shaky in the review of the surah but being able to confidently recite the entire surah from beginning to end, with the verses flowing with ease off of the tongue.

He/She should be able to recall the verses almost without thinking about it and the flow of the recitation should be smooth. The memorized surah should flow like water (this point cannot be overemphasized), so easily that even if the mind drifts off pondering about the meanings of the verses being recited, he/she will still be able to continue the recitation.

SEEKING PERFECTION

The haafidh of the Qur'aan must make it a point to repeat the most recent quarter juz (approximately 5 pages) once the number of mistakes exceeds two for the whole five pages. In other words, you must not have more than two mistakes per five pages memorized, and the same should apply to the juz. The more you practice, the better you get at it and you should aim to repeat the juz once you exceed the maximum of two mistakes per juz (approximately 20 pages) bi ithniLLAH.

A higher status than this is making yourself repeat the juz when you have more than 1 mistake. This is closest to perfection in the memorization of the Qur'aan.

When the haafidh of the Qur'aan reaches this level of perfection, it increases his/her self-confidence. It also increases his/her love for memorizing the Qur'aan, the feeling of accomplishment which increases the energy, zeal and inclination towards completing the memorization of the entire Qur'aan by the will of Allah.
